How did you come up with the rules for your forum?

I visited a lot of forums and pulled out some of the things I liked. I wanted to keep it really simple though because I was an admin at a huge forum once and their rules were never ending. I didn't like that police state mentality so I have minimal rules. Flaming is the worst offense on my forums so that's the one that I have to keep telling members to stop doing.

As an owner and staff member on many forums in the past, I kind of developed my own set of rules and tweaked them over the years. I think forum rules are pretty consistent between other forums, with the main ones targeting spam, flaming, racism, illegal content, etc.

I try my best to keep forum rules simple, easy to follow, and not overly governing. Keeping that in mind though, I want to make sure everyone has a fun and enjoyable experience when using any of my forums, and to make that happen, specific rules have to be mentioned to prevent any rule bending or overlooking.

Wanted a laid community, so I have only 3 guidelines to follow on mine.
